MANILA â The Supreme Court, sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), will start on March 19 a recount of ballots in response to the election protest that Ferdinand Marcos Jr. filed against Vice President Leni Robredo.
Marcos and Robredoâs respective legal counsels confirmed the schedule.
âThere was a schedule given to usâŚthe recount will begin March 19,â said the vice presidentâs lawyer Bernadette Sarbillo.
âAll three provinces will be counted. No resolution yet. Just a schedule from the briefing,â Sarbillo added.
Subject of the recount are ballots from Iloilo, Camarines Sur and Negros Oriental provinces.
âYes, sa March 19 na,â Marcosâ lawyer Vic Rodriguez said.
Marcos got 14,155,344 votes during the 2016 elections, losing to Robredo (14,418,817) by only 263,473 votes, based on the final and official tally by the Commission on Elections.
Marcos, a former senator, questioned the results in 39,221 clustered precincts in 25 provinces and five cities â around 9 million votes. His camp chose only three provinces for an initial recount.
He claimed there were pre-shading of ballots, massive vote-buying, script change in the transparency server that supposedly altered the results, preloaded secure digital cards, misreading of ballots, malfunctioning vote counting machines, and an âabnormally highâ unaccounted votes/undervotes for the position of vice president./PN
