MANILA ā De La Salle University Green Archers center Benoit Mbala was poised to again become the Most Valuable Player at the close of the UAAP Season 80 menās basketball first round of eliminations.
The Cameroonian center is leading the individual awards race with 98 statistical points (SPs) for his Season 80 averages of 30.4 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.0 blocks.
Mbala is dominating the MVP race for the second straight year despite playing for only five games so far for Green Archers after suiting up for the Cameroon national team in the FIBA Afrobasket.
Coming in at distant second is Ilonggo Ferdinand āThirdyā Ravena III of league leader Ateneo Blue Eagles with 66 SPs on 14.9 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists average.
On third place is Adamson University Falcons center Papi Sarr with 65.17 SPs, followed by National University Bulldogsā Rodolfo Alejandro with 62.71 SPs and University of the East Red Warriorsā Alvin Pasaol with 61.0 SPs.
Rounding out the top 10 are University of the Philippines Maroonsā Paul Desiderio (57.14 SPs), Blue Eaglesā Chibueze Ikeh (55.57 SPs), Bulldogsā Issa Gaye (53.29 SPs), Green Archersā Aljun Melecio (52.5 SPs), and University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigersā Steve Akomo (51.0 SPs).
Maroonsā Juan Gomez de LiaƱo and Jun Manzo are lording it over in the Rookie of the Year race with 39.57 and 34.0 SPs, respectively./PN
