Metro Bacolod District Jail celebrates Women’s Month

BACOLOD City – Around 200 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) attended a livelihood training and workshop during the celebration of Women’s Month in the city.

The Metro Bacolod District Jail-Male Dormitory conducted the anti-violence against women and children lecture both PDLs and their wives in Barangay Singcang.

Bacolod City Police Office Women and Children Protection Desk Officer Police Sergeant Aileen Lacrite explained laws that aims to preserve the family, violence protection from women and children and security that safeguards an individual from further harm.

Lacrite urged the PDLs to provide the moral support to their wives and children despite being inside the jail and to respect women.

Jail warden Chief Inspector Ruth Estales said the purpose of the training is to educate the wives of PDLs under custody on an alternative source of income and additional skills to raise their children while their partners are in detention.

Estales added that the livelihood training is also part of the Jail Bureau’s rehabilitative programs by providing the PDLs and their families with legitimate livelihood options to make a decent living. (With a report from PIA/PN)
