ILOILO City – The TienDA para sa mga Bayani project of the Department of Agriculture (DA) that President Rodrigo Duterte launched yesterday in Dingle, Iloilo would allow farmers and fisherfolk to sell their products directly to consumers in military camps.

This nationwide program is in coordination with the Department of National Defense (DND), said DA Region 6 director Remelyn Recoter.

Yesterday’s launching was at Camp General Adriano Hernandez, the base of the Philippine Army’s 301st Brigade.

“The primary beneficiaries are the soldiers and their families. Our President is doing everything to help our soldiers,” said Recoter.

The TienDA will help fisherfolk and livestock raisers in Dingle and neighboring towns make their produce – rice, fresh vegetables, fruits, chicken eggs, meat, and fish – more accessible and affordable at farm gate prices.

DA and DND agreed to open TienDA outlets in 20 military camps across the country.

TienDa is consistent with the government’s vision to reduce unnecessary marketing layers and middlemen in the marketing of farm products, said Recoter./PN
