KALIBO, Aklan – Drink moderately.

Because if you get drunk and cause trouble during the Ati-Atihan Festival, you will get hauled to mobile cells, police said.

Two lockup cells in the municipal police station are ready to take in dead-drunk revelers for them to sober up. The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), meanwhile, will set up mobile jails.

Kapag napuno ang ating (police station) lockup cells dahil sa dami ng bisita, may BJMP mobile jail cells [para] sa kanila,” said Chief Inspector Terence Paul Sta. Ana, Kalibo police chief.

Police will help avert such incidents by banning deadly weapons and drinks in glass bottles.

During the festival last year, 12 cases of bottle-throwing incidents were reported to the police.

Security will be tightened during the last “big three days” of the festival (Jan. 13 to 15) in anticipation of the influx of tourists.

Police officers and auxiliaries, soldiers, emergency responders, firefighters, and force multipliers are on standby, Sta. Ana said.

Specifically the police will watch out for petty crimes, including snatching and picking pockets. “May mga spotters tayo,” said Sta. Ana.

He also appealed to the public to report any unusual activities.

Ang marching order ng PRO-6 (Police Regional Office 6) sa atin ay walang bomb incidents na tulad sa ibang lugar,” Sta. Ana said.

He assured that K9 and Explosives and Ordnance Disposal teams were detailed in the town. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
