ILOILO City – The National Police Commission (Napolcom) Region 6 is investigating the allegation that a police officer indiscriminately discharged his firearm in Barangay San Isidro, La Paz district.

Napolcom Region 6 spokesperson Allen Camering told Panay News yesterday he received the administrative complaint the 70-year-old Neriza Soquiña filed against Senior Police Officer 1 Romel Nandin of the Iloilo City Public Safety Company.

Soquiña accused Nandin of threatening them and firing his gun near their house at around 9:15 p.m. on May 21, Camering said.

Nandin was called to the Napolcom on May 25. “We have given him five days to explain his side and defend himself” in a counter-affidavit, Camering said.

In her affidavit filed on Tuesday, Soquiña said she and her relatives were celebrating at their residential compound when Nandin entered and ordered them to turn down the volume of their karaoke.

A heated argument then ensued between them. Nandin left the compound and discharged his service firearm.

But Nandin denied the allegations.

“I advised them to lower the volume of their karaoke because it was disturbing the neighborhood,” he said. “Wala ko nagpalupok kay wala man sang misunderstanding nga natabo sa amon.

Nandin claimed that his .9mm pistol went off when he accidentally tripped while on his way home. “It was a case of accidental firing, not indiscriminate firing,” the police officer stressed./PN
