MANILA – Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian believes that mayors in the narco-list should immediately resign and be exposed to the public.

Gatchalian said the government should gather evidence against these public officials and file charges against them.

“The cases will accord these people due process in court,” the senator said.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte warned mayors involved in illegal drugs to reveal themselves and come clean.

Duterte also threatened those who do not willingly cooperate to “deprive you of the supervisory powers over the police.”

Tatawagin ko iyong mga mayors, i-lock ko. Kami-kami lang. Sabihin ko sa kanila. Ngayon, ganoon kakapal iyong pinakita ko sa inyo eh. ‘Hanapin mo iyong pangalan mo diyan mayor,” the President said.

“‘Pag nandiyan iyong pangalan mo, may problema ka. Talagang papatayin kita. Either you resign or make a clean breath of everything, come up with a clean nose and we’ll talk. Pero kung sabihin mo I will allow, I might go down on the history as the butcher.”

In August last year, Duterte named more than 150 government officials, members of the judiciary and Philippine National Police personnel.

The list included the names of at least 50 former and current mayors and vice mayors./PN
