BACOLOD City— The Negros Coffee Growers Association (NCGA) received a total of 55,000 coffee seedlings equivalent to P1.6 million during the Annual Project Assessment and Coffee Expo on Dec. 1 at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel, Bacolod City.

The NCGA is composed of farmers from various barangays from the province of Negros Occidental.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. expressed his commitment and support to improve the quality of coffee in the province and added that it has a huge potential for export and can help in the livelihood of the people.
Marañon also encouraged participants to work together to improve the coffee industry in the country.

The two-day activity featured coffee exhibits and talks and seminars on coffee such as coffee profiling, market matching and basics of manual coffee brewing, among others.

The event was attended by coffee growers, farmers, organizations and various stakeholders of the coffee industry from Negros Island Region (NIR), Cordillera Administrative Region, Region 3, Region 4-A, Region 6, Region 12 and Region 13.

According to Department of Agriculture (DA) assistant secretary for Visayas Atty. Hansel Didulo, the activity will pave the way to sustain and meet the industry’s growing demand not only in the country but also in the world.

Didulo also shared some good news to the farmers such as the department’s program of free irrigation to rice farmers next year and a 24/7 mobile application that can address issues and concerns of farmers in the country.
