BACOLOD City – Why was the rehabilitation of Negros Occidental’s administration center has been delayed?

According to Provincial Administrator Lucille Gelvolea, it was because of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.’s decision to redesign the structure.

Gelvolea said all construction works in the building were put on hold in December last year.

The construction works have yet to start this year, she added.

Marañon wants to make the building a revenue-generating project, according to Gelvolea.

She added that the governor wants to have spaces built in the building that will be available for rent to commercial establishments.

Marañon also wants the design of the building to “jibe with its surroundings” so that it won’t be an “eye sore.”

Gelvolea said the plan for the structure’s new design is yet to be completed.

The contractor of the project was already informed about possible rebidding, she added.

According to Gelvolea, the contractor of the project agreed to reimburse the provincial government 20 percent of the mobilization fund./PN
