ILOILO City – Security in Boracay Island during summer is a pressing concern for the new director of the Aklan Police Provincial Office.

It was one of the first things Senior Superintendent Lope Manlapaz discussed with his chiefs of police when he assumed the post on Monday. They also talked about the overall peace and order situation in Aklan.

Manlapaz considers his new assignment — particularly looking out for the world-famous island resort — a “big challenge.”

“I prepared myself for this challenging assignment,” he said in a phone interview. “I’m asking for the cooperation of my chiefs of police. I’m thankful to our regional director, Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, for trusting me.”

Manlapaz was promoted just this January. He headed the Police Regional Office 6’s Logistics Division prior to getting detailed in Aklan.

His predecessor, Senior Superintendent John Mitchell Jamili, is now chief of staff of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group in Camp Crame.

“I have been dedicated to my career, and I was happy serving the people of Aklan and working with the provincial government and other stakeholders who have been very supportive during my stint,” Jamili said./PN
