SAN JOSE, Antique – The National Food Authority (NFA) has set aside rice buffer stock for relief operations in the province.

NFA manager Frisco Canoy said the rice stocks of NFA-Antique will be distributed as relief goods in operations that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council will conduct.

When needed, the rice stocks will also be distributed to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Philippine National Red Cross and local government offices that will conduct their respective relief operations.

Canoy assured that the province has enough supply of rice. The province has 363,454 bags of rice that will be good for 75 days.

The projected rice consumption in the province is 4,860 bags per day.

The inventory was made from the collective stocks in households (85 percent) and commercial (13 percent) and NFA (2 percent) warehouses, Canoy said.

NFA rice, which is limited, is available in the market at P27 per kilogram, he added. (With PilarMabaquiao/PIA/PN)
