MANILA – Donnie Nietes will defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight belt against Argentinian Juan Carlos Reveco on Feb. 24 in Inglewood, California.

This will be Nietes’ first defense of the IBF title he won at the expense of Komgrich Nantapech of Thailand in April 2017 in Cebu City.

The 35-year-old Murcia, Negros Occidental native said he is excited to fight again in the United States and looks forward to his ring return after almost 10 months of waiting for his next opponent.

“Fighting in Los Angeles for the third time in front of great Filipino fans, along with fighting on HBO, is a great honor for me,” said Nietes. “I know how tough Reveco is, but we’ll be prepared to defend my title.”

Nietes is a three-division world champion, having won world championships at the minimumweight (105 lbs) and light flyweight (108 lbs) before ruling in flyweight (112 lbs).

He currently has an impressive 40-1-4 win-loss-draw record, including 22 knockout victories. He has yet to lose since his lone defeat in 2004 against Indonesian Angky Angkotta.

The 34-year-old Reveco, on the other hand, has a 39-3-0 win-loss-draw record, including 19 stoppage wins. The Argentinian earned the right to face Nietes by beating Nantapech in September last year.

The Nietes-Reveco match will be one of the co-main events of Filipino-Hawaiian fighter Brian Viloria’s bid for the WBA world flyweight title against Artem Dalakian of Ukraine./PN
