CEBU City – Vehicles are not allowed to park within a 10-meter radius from the perimeter fence of the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

The local government is imposing the policy, approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, to ensure the safety of devotees attending religious and cultural activities during the Sinulog week.

Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the committee on public order and safety, said the vicinity of the Basilica is a “no-parking zone” from Jan. 6 to 15.

All Sinulog events this week will be capped by the Grand Parade, a huge crowd drawer, on Sunday, Jan. 15.

Earlier local officials said they also wanted to ban drones along the parade route and at the Cebu City Sports Center, where some 10,000 people are expected to watch Sinulog performing contingents.

Around 8,000 security personnel will be deployed to the city during the Sinulog.

They include police and military personnel and “force multipliers,” such as reservists and military training cadets. (PNA)
