ILOILO City – This city will have P2,212,640,041 at its disposal in 2018. The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved this executive budget of the city government during its regular session on Tuesday.

On the average the city government’s annual executive budget since 2014 increased by around 10.8 percent, said Councilor Eduardo Peñaredondo, chairperson of the SP appropriations committee.

The city’s budget this year is P2.089 billion.

The special purpose appropriation got the biggest chunk of the 2018 budget (P797.169 million) followed by the personnel services (P718.098 million); maintenance and other operating expenses (P672.937 million) and capital outlay (P24.434 million).

Meanwhile, the budget for the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) was reduced. Peñaredondo said they were “apprehensive” about the operations of the city’s slaughterhouse.

The six-month income of the slaughterhouse dropped despite having resumed operations after getting two new boilers, he said.

“I am (also) surprise also that our revenues from the public markets are not rising (despite) the influx of people in the city,” Peñaredondo added.

The LEEO was given P75.138 million, lower by 4.65 percent compared with this year’s appropriations.

The SP also included in the approved budget P28.22 million for peace and order programs; P8.466 million for confidential and intelligence expenses; and P27.121 million for assistance to festivities and holidays.

Of the approved budget, 58.29 percent will be sourced from local taxes, 41.26 percent from the city’s Internal Revenue Allotment share; and .45 percent from the city government’s share on the Economic Zone. (PNA/PN)
