BACOLOD City – A 9.8-million overpass in front of the Antonio L. Jayme Elementary School in Barangay Mansilingan was inaugurated on Thursday.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the structure was just one of the three that he facilitated when he was congressman.

The other two were supposed to be built in barangays Sum-ag and Mandalagan, but the villagers were not amenable to the project, Leonadia said.

The Road Board provided the fund for the overpass project, he added.

Also present at the inauguration were Road Board comptroller Ed Conchu, Rep. Greg Gasataya, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, and Engr. Abraham Villareal, head of the Public Works department’s Bacolod City District Engineering Office.

It took almost two years before the Mansilingan overpass was completed, said Leonardia.

Meanwhile Gasataya said he asked the Road Board to build additional overpasses in barangays Tangub, Villamonte and Bata.

Several traffic accidents occurred in these villages recently. An overpass would help secure the pedestrians, said Gasataya./PN
