ILOILO City – The city government gave cash incentives to athletes who harvested medals in the recent Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Antique.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog commended the medalists for bringing pride and honor to the Ilonggos.

A total of 52 athletes from city elementary and high schools who garnered medals in various sports events were given cash gifts.

Eleven gold medalists each received P5,000; 24 silver medalists each got P3,000; and 26 bronze medalists each took home with P2,000.

Daniel Endress (secondary paralympic athletics, boys) got the highest award after bagging gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 4×100-meter relay, running long jump and 200-meter run.

“Aside from monetary consideration, honor and prestige given to these young athletes, we hope to inspire them more to do their best and at the same time encourage other aspiring Ilonggo athletes to excel,” said Rommel Castro, chief of the City Sports Development Office.
