BACOLOD City – Around 38 inmates of the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-SICA) were transferred to the Negros Occidental District Jail after a greyhound operation yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Alberto Balauag, officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Negros Island Region, said the transferred detainees were “pasaway.”

They were transferred after making noise when the jail officers did not allow Jocjoc Baldomar’s mistress to have a fellow minute visit.

Baldomar, one of those transferred, was called “mayor” by his cellmates.

Based on the standard operating procedure of the BJMP, only the legal wife may have a conjugal visit.

Balauag said the transferred detainees have pending cases for drug offenses in the Regional Trial Court of Bacolod City.
The greyhound operation was conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Bacolod City Police Office, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the BJMP.

An improvised knife, an ice pick, lighters, a pointed spoon and fork, a foil, and suspected illegal drug residue were recovered.

PDEA will further inspect the seized items.

WARDEN PROBE
The detainees also asked Balauag to replace MBDJ-SICA warden Superintendent Larry Fuentes.

Fuentes was being “abusive” to their visitors, the detainees told Balauag.

However, Balauag clarified that Fuentes was only carrying out proper procedures to prevent illegal drugs from entering the jail.

Some visitors were caught smuggling drugs into the facility by placing them in their underwear, Balauag explained.

Still, Fuentes was relieved from his post and placed under investigation.

Deputy warden Inspector Anelito Emboltorio assumed Fuentes’ position./PN
