MANILA – The PBA Commissioner’s Office on Tuesday slapped a total of P30,000 in fines against Meralco Bolts forward Clifford Hodge and rookie guard Eduardo Daquioag for various violations.
Hodge was hit with a P20,000 fine after committing a flagrant penalty and two fouls in Bolts’ 101-86 loss to the San Miguel Beermen. Daquioag, meanwhile, was meted a P10,000 fine for a second-offense landing spot foul.
TNT Katropa rookie Roger Pogoy was also slapped with a P8,000 fine for a flagrant penalty and foul (hitting an airborne player). This marks the second time that Pogoy has been penalized for the same violation.
Asked to pay P7,500 each were Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ Ronnie Matias and Phoenix Fuel Masters’ Mark Borboran for first-offense flagrant landing spot fouls.
Beermen’s Arwind Santos and Ilonggo Ronald Tubid, Star Hotshots’ Paul Lee, Painters’ Anthony Washington, NLEX Road Warriors’ Glenn Khobuntin and Mahindra Floodbuster’s Mark Yee were fined P5,000 each for flagrant foul one.
Lighter penalties were meted on Hotshots’ Jean Marc Pingris (P2,000) and Jio Jalalon (P1,000); Alaska Aces’ Calvin Abueva (P1,600) and Dondon Hontiveros (P1,000); Beermen’s Chris Ross (P1,600) and Global Port Batang Pier’s Rico Maierhofer (P1,000).
Among the head coaches, only Hotshots mentor Chito Victolero was meted with a P1,000 fine for altercating with PBA referees during their game against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings.
According to PBA commissioner Andres Narvasa, all monetary fines collected from the players go directly to the Players’ Trust Fund for the benefit of the retired players scholarship program./PN
