ILOILO City – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is looking into the death of a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent killed during a buy-bust operation in Sitio Solong, Barangay San Juan, Sibalom, Antique last Tuesday.

PDEA assistant regional director Levi Ortiz told Panay News they asked the NBI to lead the investigation into the case of Macario Grasparil to ensure impartiality.

Grasparil allegedly sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover police officer for P500.

Inspector Clark Philip Dinco, officer-in-charge of the Sibalom police station, said Grasparil drew his gun, a .357 revolver, after realizing he was being entrapped.

This forced the operatives of the Sibalom police and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit Central Antique to shoot the suspect, said Dinco.

Ortiz confirmed that Grasparil was an active agent of the PDEA.

Eleven more plastic packs of shabu were recovered from Grasparil’s sling bag, which also contained a .9mm pistol.

According to Dinco, Grasparil was in the Sibalom police’s list of suspected drug personalities.

Inunahan siya ng mga operatiba natin,” said Dinco.

Ortiz cannot yet say for certain when the investigation will end.

Grasparil graduated from the PDEA Academy in 2007 (Class Masidlak) and has been an agent for eight years already, Ortiz said.

Meanwhile the Police Regional Office 6 will cooperate with the investigation however it can, according to Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson.

Gorero said the investigation will shed light on the circumstances surrounding Grasparil’s death that remain unclear./PN
