Through collaborating with the Singaporean Institute, School D’ Hospitality, PHINMA University of Iloilo (PHINMA UI) boosts the quality of education they provide.

In 2008, the University of Iloilo was acquired by Philippine Investment Management (PHINMA). It officially became part of the PHINMA Education Network (PEN) in April 2009. Through PEN, an educational institution that aims to provide quality education at an affordable fee, the University of Iloilo continues to enlighten the minds of Ilonggos through quality education made accessible to everyone.

Last July 19, 2017, PHINMA UI launched its collaboration with School D’Hospitality (SDH) Institute. SDH Institute is a forward looking school with a clear focus on hospitality education. They strive to develop students in a holistic manner. The programs they offer do not only equip students with the professional and business knowledge and skills for the global hospitality industry, but also aim to inculcate an attitude of service, excellence, and entrepreneurship. Their comprehensive range of Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Post-Graduate, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree and professional learning programs, unique learning approach and caring student support create a truly distinctive educational experience.

SDH Institute Managing Director Chia Tuck Keong and Senior Lecturer Barry Hayes were present during the launching. Whereas, PHINMA UI Chief Operations Officer Eduardo Arevalo and Dean Maria Corinna Parungao of the College of Management and Accountancy represented the university for the signing of memorandum of agreement. PHINMA Education Network Marketing Director Buen Bontigao moderated the flow of the press conference.

Members of PHINMA UI student council and senior high school students were also present during the launching. The partnership was as well witnessed by different members of the media.

Advancements in programs, curricula, and courses being offered in a certain academic institution matters. They are the “structures” that are highly influential towards the achievement of the academe’s mission and vision, thus making them truly vital. The fundamental purpose of a well-developed program, curriculum, or course is to ensure that students receive integrated, coherent learning experiences that contribute towards their personal, academic and professional learning.

Partnerships between sectors hugely contribute to this. The efficiency of a certain program, curriculum, or course is better ensured when there is collaboration. Each sector might bring different sets of values, priorities, resources and competencies to a partnership but the end goal all boils down to one – bringing these diverse contributions together, linked by a common vision in order to achieve sustainable development goals./PN
