TNT KaTropa forward Roger Pogoy (right) bumps against Blackwater Elite guard Michael Vincent DiGregorio during their PBA Philippine Cup match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday night, Jan. 17. PBA

MANILA – Roger Pogoy scored conference-best 24 points, and TNT KaTropa sent Blackwater Elite crashing via a 92-83 victory in their PBA Philippine Cup match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Pogoy also posted eight rebounds, three assists and two steals on Wednesday night in helping KaTropa create a six-way tie and share fourth to ninth places with a 2-2 win-loss slate.

Jayson Castro added 17 markers, while Ryan Garcia and Anthony Semerad contributed 12 and 11, respectively.

TNT, which was recovering from an 88-76 loss to San Miguel Beermen in Iloilo City, trailed 40-50 early in the third quarter, and then went on a 13-1 scoring run behind Pogoy, Kelly Williams, Semerad, and Ryan Reyes to snatch the lead 53-51.

KaTropa then pulled away with conversions from Jeth Troy Rosario, Norbert Torres and Castro, and back-to-back triples from Garcia and Semerad to build its largest lead 76-59.

Elite countered with its own rally behind Mike Cortez and Allein Maliksi to get close 79-85 but KaTropa was quick to answer with a 3-point play from Castro and free throws from Pogoy to seal the victory.

“We knew that we were going to have a hard time against Blackwater,” said KaTropa head coach Nash Racela. “Malakas na talaga lahat ng teams, so you really have to put value in every game.”

John Paul Erram finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Cortez chipped in 14 markers for Elite, which slid to a 2-2 card after TNT snapped its two-game winning run./PN
