ILOILO City – A police officer assigned at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) faces administrative and possibly criminal charges for carrying an unlicensed firearm.

Police Officer 2 Stephen Magno, assigned at the PRO-6’s Regional Headquarters Support Group (RHSG), was suspended.

Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director, also ordered Magno disarmed for carrying a firearm other than what the government issued him.

The cop also did not have a permit to carry such firearm outside of his residence.

On March 5 around 5:15 p.m., Gentiles spotted Magno with the gun.

Magno was among the policemen undergoing a Character Aptitude Development and Enforcement Training (CADET).

“CADET trainees are not allowed to carry firearms while inside the PRO-6,” said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of the regional police office.

Seized from Magno was a .45 Colt pistol (serial number SH841015). It was not his government-issued firearm (a .45 pistol with serial number BA03420 kept at the PRO-6).

After he was disarmed, Magno was moved to the Regional Holding and Accounting Unit of the PRO-6. His suspension starts today and will end on April 17. During this period, he will be investigated.

Magno may be charged with neglect of duty, illegal gun possession and violation of the ongoing gun ban in connection with the city’s hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations meeting.

Gentiles tasked the Regional Investigation and Management Division to probe Magno./PN
