ILOILO City – The city government recognized 10 institutions that are person with disability-friendly (PWD) yesterday.

“This year’s 10 PWD-friendly establishments are clear manifestations of our successful collaboration – PWDs, the government, the business and private sector, and other agencies,” said Mark Espisor, president of the Federation of Persons with Disability Associations, Inc.

The 10 institutions were GT Mall in Molo, Jollibee La Paz Branch, La Paz Police Station, St. Paul’s Hospital, Barangay Veterans Village, Arevalo Supermart, Richmonde Hotel, Land Bank of the Philippines Jaro Branch, ASECOR Assumption Educational Center, and Light of Glory Taxi Services.

The awards were given to establishments with architectural features and facilities that provide better access to PWDs based on the implementing rules and regulations of Batas Pambansa 344, or the Accessibility Law for PWDs.

“This simply shows that we are living as one community with respect towards each other,” Espiso said.

The recognition is in line with the celebration of the 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week from July 17 to 23.

PWDs in Iloilo City held a bazaar with their products and offered free blind massage at the Iloilo city hall.

Iloilo city government celebrated the NPDR Week with the theme: “Ilonggo PWDs Version 2.0: Partners for Change, Makers of Change.” (PNA)
