MANILA – Rain or Shine Elasto Painters has kept its lineup intact heading into the 2017-2018 PBA Season after renewing the contracts of its four veterans, including Anthony Jay Washington.
The 35-year-old Washington renewed his contract with the Painters to bolster its frontline that also features Beau Belga, Raymond Almazan, Jewel Ponferrada, and Mark Borboran.
Washington, a former national men’s basketball team member, vowed to bounce back for the Painters in the upcoming season after being saddled with a torn hamstring during the 2017 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup.
Aside from Washington, also renewed by the Painters are veteran Ronnie Matias, Celedonio Trollano, Jireh Ibañes, rookie Rey Nambatac and second year players Dexter Maiquez and Jeramy King.
Chris Tiu, who earlier informed the team of his desire to sign a one-year contract extension, has yet to inked a new deal and has yet to show up at the Painters’ practices.
“Si Chris na lang talaga ang hinihintay namin,” said Painters head coach Carlos Garcia. “Kapag pumirma siya ulit then it will be a big boost for us. Pero kung hindi, we can only thank him and hope our other players will step up.”
“Aside from his numbers, his leadership on the court was really important for us,” added Garcia. “His contribution for us last season was a big reason why we reach the playoffs round.”
The Painters, a perennial contender during the time of head coach Yeng Guiao, is aiming to improve its performance in the 2017-2018 PBA season after not going beyond quarterfinals the last three conferences./PN
