ILOILO City – The New People’s Army (NPA) Panay denied stealing money, jewelry and electronic gadgets from the police officers of Maasin, Iloilo when a unit from the NPA-Napoleon Tumagtang Command raided the town’s police station on June 18.

Items that the rebels inadvertently took would be returned to their respective owners should these be proven to be the police officers’ personal belongings, according to Ka Julio Montana, spokesperson of the NPA-Coronacion Chiva “Waling-Waling” Command, in a statement.

Montana said what the rebels took were “mga kagamitan militar nga ginagamit sang PNP batuk sa rebolusyonaryo nga hublag kag sa pumuluyo (military materiel that the PNP use against the revolutionary movement and the masses).”

The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) listing the following to have been taken away by the rebels from the Massin police station:

* 11 M16 armalite rifles with 11 magazines with ammunitions

* 11 magazines of short firearms with ammunitions

* three .9mm pistols (2 Glock, 1 Beretta)

* a Super .38 Colt pistol

* ICom base radio and seven handheld radios

* police patrol car

* five rig with handcuffs

* logbook

* non-drugs items kept in a cabinet

* two pairs of police uniform.

Maasin policemen, on the other hand, listed personal items the NPA took.

* from Police Officer 1 Hernando Aguilos – P18,000 cash, gold bracelet worth P16,000, laptop worth P20,000, wallet with identification card and automated teller machine card

* from Police Officer 2 Michael Maquiling – G-shock wristwatch worth P6,000

* from Police Officer 3 Ronel Jabican – laptop and Lenovo mobile phone

* from Police Officer 3 Cheryl Saenz – iPhone 5S worth P30,000

* from Police Officer 2 Andrea Perez – P10,000 cash

* from Police Officer 1 Nenita Estamapdor – Samsung mobile phone

Montana told Panay News the police were making stories up to cover up their embarrassing lapses.

The raid of the Maasin police station was swift. The rebels, numbering between 40 to 50, were gone in just 15 minutes. Maasin police officers were too stunned to put up a fight.

Montana denied the police officers were treated inhumanely.

p class=”NewStyle16″>“They were not harmed because they did not fight back,” said Montana.
It was not true that the rebels stepped on the head of police officers who were ordered to lie down on the police station floor; they were simply handcuffed, he stressed.

“Senior Superintendent Christopher Tambungan did worse. He berated the Maasi n police officers even if they were still in a state of shock,” said Montana.

Tambungan, the deputy director for operations of the Police Regional Office 6, expressed displeasure over the raid and the Maasin police station’s helplessness.

“Hindi nila ini-internalize ang lahat na sinabi ko so ayan, nasampolan na,” said Tambungan after the raid.

Tambungan had been inspecting police stations across the region since last month.

“I told them not to leave their stations unmanned because we are on full alert status. We have to be ready always,” he said./PN
