SAN JOSE, Antique – The regional State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association (SCUAA) Meet 2017 is ongoing in Sibalom, Antique.

The sports meet kicked off with an opening program at the University of Antique (UA) on Dec. 3.

Gov. Rhodora Cadiao gave a speech during the opening program saying the provincial government gives its “full support” to the regional sports event.

Cadiao added the province is “best” in hosting athletic events citing the success of the Palarong Pambansa 2017 last April.

“We just hosted the 2017 Palarong Pambansa last April and we look forward for your return in February for the National SCUAA 2018 since UA again won in bidding for hosting it,” Cadiao added.

Cadiao also encouraged participating delegations to visit some tourist spots in the province.

“Antiqueños are warm and friendly. While you’re here, please arrange that you also visit our tourist spots from old churches, caves, natural parks, and prestige beaches,” she said.

Joining in this year’s regional SCUAA are the Aklan State University, Capiz State University, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Central Philippine State University, Guimaras State College, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Iloilo State College of Fisheries, Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College, Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, West Visayas State University, University of the Philippines-Visayas, and UA.

The sports event will run until Dec. 9.

For his part, UA sports coordinator Tito Gatchitorena said, “One of the most memorable things every time Antique hosts big events such as this is the accommodation and hospitality of Antiqueños.” (With Jay Kem Elanga, Allyssa Marie Villeza, Suzienette Habagat, and Cyrus Pablo/PN)
