ILOILO City – A rookie cop insisted that his friend attacked him early this month, a National Police Commission (Napolcom) Region 6 official said.

Police Officer 1 Joemon Ras Cainday accused his friend Erwin Pineda of molesting him and slashing him on the chest with a blade inside Anita Lodge in Barangay MacArthur, La Paz district.

Pineda, on the other hand, claimed the policeman “planted” the blade and sachet of shabu seized from him.

Pineda, who identifies as a gay man, was arrested and detained at the La Paz police station. He filed a complaint against Cainday before the Napolcom-6 after posting bail.

Napolcom-6 ordered Cainday to explain his side. In his counter-affidavit, he insisted that Pineda owned the drug and the cutter.

Spokesman Allen Camering said Napolcom-6 investigators were still evaluating testimonies from both parties.

If they find probable cause, an administrative case may be filed against Cainday, Camering said.

Cainday was assigned at the Iloilo City Police Office’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit but was relieved from his post after the incident.

According to Cainday, he and Pineda went to Anita Lodge on Jan. 4 to continue binge drinking after the restaurant at the Jaro plaza where they were originally at closed.

The police officer claimed they just finished drinking beer at around 10 p.m. when he lied down the bed. He suddenly felt Pineda removing his pants and touching his sex organ.

He pushed Pineda, who then grabbed a blade and slashed him on the chest, Cainday claimed.

A grappling ensued. Cainday eventually disarmed and searched Pineda, and found the drug inserted in the latter’s underwear.

Pineda denied these. He also claimed Cainday was the one who placed his hand on the latter’s sex organ./PN
