BACOLOD City – A man believed to be a victim of summary execution by antidrug vigilantes was found off a cliff in Sitio Himampangon, Barangay Balaas, Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.

Police was unable to identify the body — placed in two combined sacks tied using a rope — as of this writing but said the victim was in his 40s.

A local fishing in the area found the body, which appeared to have been thrown off the ravine, 70 meters from the national highway, and reported to the Bindoy police, which in turn called the Manjuyod police around 6 p.m. on May 17.

Rescuers and Balaas barangay officials helped retrieve the body.

The words “Adik ako, huwag tularan” (I’m an addict. Don’t emulate me) were written on the sacks, while a packing tape and a cloth were wrapped around the body’s neck, police said.

The body was already decomposing. It was taken to a morgue.

Signs on the body were similar to those seen on bodies of victims of summary executions by vigilantes believed to be emboldened by the government’s intensified crackdown against illegal drugs./PN
