SAN JOSE, Antique – The municipal government has acquired three new dump trucks for the enhanced implementation of its solid waste management program.

Each dump truck costs P1 million, which is sourced from the P3-million Performance Challenge Fund that the municipal government received from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The cash incentive was given to San Jose for passing the 2016 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), according to DILG information officer Judy Mae Magdato.

Mayor Elmer Untaran said town generates more garbage as it develops.

Untaran said the procurement of the dump trucks is an effective way enhance solid waste collection and minimize environmental and health hazards.

Around 12,000 households will benefit from the garbage collection services of the municipal government using the dump trucks.

Untaran presented the dump trucks to the local government officials and employees during the flag-raising ceremony on Jan. 15.

The town also received another P2-million cash incentive from the DILG for passing the 2017 SGLG. It will be used to fund the local development projects in line with the national development agenda.

DILG introduced the SGLG to challenge local government units across the country to continue practicing good governance for better services. (PIA/PN)
