SAN JOSE, Antique – Several roads in the municipalities of Sibalom and Patnongon will soon be completely paved.
The paving of the Nagdayao-Pis-anan Road in Sibalom and the Larioja-Tigbalogo Road in Patnongon is expected to be completed by October this year.
Some P84 million was allotted to the road projects under the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Kalsada (Konkreto at Ayos na Lansangan ang Daan Tungo sa Pangkalahatang Kaunlaran) program.
The allocation for Antique was part of the P6.5 billion the government allotted for Kalsada project in 74 pilot provinces.
Engr. Donee Ann Ruinata of the DILG-Antique recently checked on the Nagdayao-Pis-anan Road, which was allotted P50 million, and the Larioja-Tigbalogo Road, which had a P34-million budget. The projects started on Dec. 8 last year.
The provincial government of Antique allotted P20 million as counterpart funding for the two road projects.
The Kalsada program aims to help local government units improve local road conditions by providing technical and capacity development assistance through training, mentoring and coaching on local road management, as well as funding for road upgrading, improvement and rehabilitation.
To qualify for Kalsada, the province must be a recipient of the Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping under the Seal of Good Local Governance.
Performance criteria for Fiscal Year 2016 were based on a province’s performance in the implementation of Special Local Road Fund projects and on road maintenance based on the DILG Provincial Road Inventory of Good to Fair Roads.
Prior to the release of funds, Antique submitted documentary requirements, including the Provincial Road Network Development Plan and the Detailed Engineering Design, among others.
The DILG conducted a series of capability building training-workshops to participating local governments to help them comply with the documentary requirements. (PIA/PN)
