MANILA – Tai Bundit is still the head coach of the Ateneo Lady Eagles.

This is according to Ateneo de Manila University president Father Jett Villarin, SJ, who announced the news on his official Facebook account Monday evening.

In the post, Villarin admitted that there are internal team conflicts that will take time to be solved.

Villarin pleaded for everyone’s understanding as they try to resolve the issues and to refrain from speculating, which could taint the people involved.

The Ateneo president also said he will issue a formal statement when everything is settled.

Villarin’s statement came after reports that Bundit was let go as Ateneo’s women’s volleyball coach surfaced online.

Team manager Tony Boy Liao told the press on Sunday that Bundit was removed from the position, contrary to the latter’s claim that he resigned to be with his family.

Internal matters, including complaints from rookie players on playing time and the strenuous training, led to the dissolution of Bundit’s stint, Liao had said.

Bundit also wrote on Instagram, “When you don’t want me, I will leave you. Every year before start of training, I told like this, if you remember. I want you to have the discipline and heartstrong [sic].”

Bundit steered the Lady Eagles to two championships in the UAAP in Seasons 76 and 77.

The Thai mentor helped the Katipunan-based squad produce some of the country’s finest volleyball stars – three-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez, two-time UAAP Best Libero Dennise Lazaro and national team setter Jia Morado. (CNN Philippines and Adrian Stewart Co/PN)
