THE Bacolod Tay Tung High School Under-12 squad earned the right to represent Negros Occidental in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet after ruling the Palarong Panlalawigan elementary boys’ basketball.

Thunderbolts, representing Nopsscea, captured the Negros meet championship after scoring a 57-32 victory over Area 7 (Bacolod City) in the gold medal match on Friday.

Composing the squad were John Ordas, Thomas Pillado, Toni Siglos, Jose Palafox, Rafael Ledesma, Joshua Dignadice, Marvin delos Santos, Johnray Castiller, Gabriel Ortiz, Andrie Kaabay, Deylan Despi, and Tristan Adricula.

Tay Tung also captured three gold medals and a silver medal in badminton, with Brylle Kaede Mabayag and Lance Uy making a 1-2 finish in the elementary boys’ singles.

Cody Torres and Sean de Jesus, meanwhile, captured gold in secondary boys’ doubles while Pamela Lopez clinched gold in secondary girls’ singles.

Gymnast Kiana Marie Alagaban, on the other hand, bagged five medals for Tay Tung – golds in ball and team events and silvers in rope, hope and individual all-around.

Tay Tung has 35 athletes qualified to compete in the WVRAA early next year, said Jose Montalbo, the school’s vice president for sports.

“I’m glad with how Tay Tung athletes performed in Palarong Panlalawigan,” he said. “The school will make sure these athletes will be ready come the WVRAA.”/PN
