ASIDE from Iloilo City, former University of the Philippines Lady Maroons star Nicole Tiamzon will also hold her Spike and Serve volleyball camp at the municipality of Leon in Iloilo province on Dec. 17.

The Leon camp from 8 a.m. to 12 noon will cater to 50 poor local kids who wish to learn the basics of the sport, according to sportsman Ruding Villaruz.

“This is Nicole’s way of giving back to the grassroots level,” Villaruz told Panay News. “We just want to thank Leon mayor Rolito Cajilig for throwing his support for this event, which will be huge for Leonians.”

Those who wish to participate may send Villaruz a private message via the TeamLegends Legends Facebook page. Registration is free. Participants will be given a free meal and a free camp shirt.

“We are glad that Nicole agreed to also visit Leon. We are sure the less fortunate Leonians will be inspired by her presence and try to excel in volleyball,” Villaruz said.

Before heading to Leon, Tiamzon will hold the Spike and Serve volleyball camp on Dec. 16 in Iloilo City. Fifty participants are also expected.

A community service project of Tiamzon, Spike and Serve aims to create an avenue for sports development, promote healthy competition and enhance community building in the grassroots.

“Our mission,” Tiamzon said, “is to promote fun, healthy competition and raise interest in the sport of volleyball while at the same time fostering a sense of community service.”/PN
