ILOILO – The Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force (PBDTF) has resumed its patrol operation in Concepcion town after a brief lull and apprehended three fishermen.

The following were caught for trawl fishing: Randy De La Cruz of Estancia town and Gerald and Eugene Ascura of Barangay Igbon, Concepcion.

They were fishing 1.17 kilometers from the shoreline of Barangay Salvacion, Concepcion, said PBDTF leader Senior Police Officer 1 Gilbert Piedad.

They would be charged with violating Section 95 of Republic Act (RA) 10654 that prohibits trawl fishing.

RA 10654 is “An Act to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing, Amending Republic Act 8550, Otherwise Known As “The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998,” and for other Purposes.”

The three fishermen were onboard motorboats “Princess Bebs”, “Quennie-1” and “Quennie-5”, respectively.

To redeem the grounded motorboats, boat owners Rodito Albarquez and Eduardo Ascura paid a compromise fine of P30,000 each to the municipal government of Concepcion. (Jezza A. Nepomoceno, Iloilo Capitol/PN)
