MANILA – Sen. Antonio Trillianes IV remained unconvinced by President Rodrigo Duterte’s purge of corrupt officials.

Maniniwala lang ako sa purging na ‘yan ni Duterte pag pinakita n’ya na ‘yung mga bank accounts n’ya,” Trillanes on Friday said.

The former Philippine Navy officer accused the President of having billions of pesos in the bank.

“Hanggang ngayon hindi pa rin n’ya mapaliwanag kung bakit meron s’yang ganoong kalaking pera,” said Trillanes.

Sen. Vicente Sotto III, for his part, said it would be up to Duterte to dismiss government officials.

“He can fire his appointees anytime for any reason or no reason at all,” Sotto said.

On Thursday Duterte said he would fire another high-ranking government official and several policemen in the next few days.

“You know I am not a saint. I have also my faults in life. But corruption has never been really an issue even to myself. I am in the thick of firing people,” the Chief Executive said during a speech at the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. event.

The former mayor of Davao City also said he would focus his remaining four years in office ridding the government of corrupt officials.
Duterte earlier removed Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) Terry Ridon from his post over unnecessary travels abroad.

Last year, he fired Interior secretary Ismael Sueno, Dangerous Drugs Board chief Dionisio Santiago and PCUP commissioner Melissa Aradanas./PN
