MANILA – Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV was declared “persona non grata” by the Davao City Council.

Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag authored the resolution making the declaration. The city council approved this on Tuesday.

Al-ag said this was because Trillanes tagged President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown as “the most dangerous city in the Philippines” during a forum in Chicago, United States.

According to the senator, his statement was based on the December 2015 Philippine National Police data indicating that Davao had the highest murder rate and second highest number of rape cases in the country.

“The truth, definitely, hurts,” the former Philippine Navy official said.

“The people of Davao either know it but tolerate it out of fear or they’ve actually believed the lie that was fed to them that Davao City is the safest city in the world,” he added.

Trillanes has repeatedly accused Duterte and his family of having unexplained wealth.

He claimed that the chief executive failed to declare in his statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth at least P211 million in bank deposits.

Trillanes also accused Duterte’s son Paolo and brother-in-law Manases Carpio of being involved in drug trafficking./PN
