MANILA – There is no need to review the match between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn last Sunday at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia, according to the president of the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

The referee and the judges in the controversial bout acted according to their discretion, Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel wrote on Twitter Wednesday.

“The discretion of a referee or judge cannot be reversed, except in a case of fraud or violation of laws which is not the case in Pac vs Horn,” the tweet read.

“The contract for Pac vs Horn provides a rematch clause, which the WBO is in accordance if the promoters decide to move forward,” added the Puerto Rico-based boxing organization.

The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) on Monday wrote to Valcarcel requesting a thorough review of the calls of referee Mark Nelson and judges Waleska Roldan, Chris Flores and Ramón Cerdán.

“We are constrained to request for a thorough review by the WBO to identify possible miscalls by the referee where some deductions were not made and of the judges in their judging,” the GAB said. “We make the call for a review, which may call for sanctions on referee and the judges if so warranted.”

Also on Wednesday, Pacquiao called on the WBO to act on the GAB’s request even though he already accepted the result — Horn stripping him of the world welterweight title via unanimous decision, 117-111, 115-113, 115-113.

GAB chairman Baham Mitra said on Thursday he is aware of the tweets but would rather wait for a formal response by the WBO.

Ang sabi hindi pa raw nakikita ng presidente (ng WBO) ang request namin,” Mitra said, citing a conversation with WBO Asia-Pacific chairman Leon Panoncilo Jr.

Mitra said Panoncilo informed the GAB that its request will first go through the WBO’s grievance committee before a decision is announced.

Hihintayin muna namin ang formal na reply sa sulat natin. Kasi lumalabas sa Twitter na turned down kami e wala pa kaming nari-receive na message from Paco,” said Mitra. (With ABS-CBN Sports/PN)
