WVRAA Meet: Ilonggo swimmers capture 16 golds

ILOILO continued its dominance in the 2018 WVRAA Meet after bagging 16 gold medals in swimming on Wednesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

Camille Belandres and Moses Bito-onon led the Ilonggo tankers with two golds each in secondary girls 200m breaststroke and 100m freestyle, and secondary boys 200m medley and 100m freestyle, respectively.

Also winning golds in secondary events were Stefany Saac in girls 400m freestyle, Earl Dublas in boys 100m breaststroke, Raymund Paloma in boys 200m butterfly, and Juliana Lee in girls 200m butterfly.

Taking home golds in elementary events were Andrea Seloterio in girls 100m breaststroke, Alexander Quitoy in boys 50m butterfly, Dee Catredilla in girls 500m breaststroke, and Joan Perez in girls 200m medley.

Iloilo swimmers also had four group gold medals in secondary girls 200m medley relay, secondary boys 400m relay, secondary girls 400m relay, and elementary girls 400m medley relay.

Aklan, meanwhile, captured six golds courtesy of Jennuel de Leon in elementary boys 200m freestyle and 100m freestyle; Kyla Soguilon in secondary girls 100m breaststroke; Michael Lozada in elementary boys 100m breaststroke; and Joseph Lucio in secondary boys 200m breaststroke and secondary boys 200m medley relay.

Three of the five golds Negros Occidental swimmers won were from Alexi Cabayaran in elementary girls 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle. Regan Carbanzos won one, too, in secondary boys 400m freestyle while Mary Louise Lacson bagged another in secondary girls medley.

Capiz reps won four golds. Two were from Carl de Emoy (elementary boys 50m breaststroke and 200m medley) while the other two were in 200m medley relay and elementary boys 400m relay.

In athletics, Iloilo racked up five more golds from Loren Segura (elementary high jump), Edna Magtubo (secondary girls 1500m), Vince Bahayan (secondary boys 400m dash), John Masuhol (elementary boys 1500m), and Edgar Carando (secondary boys 1500m).

Negros also had five golds from Ma. Isabel Oqueriza (secondary girls 400m), Kezhia Aguillon (elementary girls 100m), Jay Anne Dieta (elementary girls 400m), Ruwelyn Francisco (elementary girls 1500m), and Von Espelita (triple jump).

Iloilo also dominated arnis with Angel Suede, Janelle Tanedo and Khea Mae Valenzuela winning golds in elementary girls team sword and dagger, team single weapon, and team double identical weapon.

Jeremy Joseph Tanedo, Carl Wayne Reyes and Kyle Angelo Tiran also won two golds for Iloilo in elementary boys double identical weapon and team sword and dagger.

In badminton, Negros stamped class with four golds in elementary – Reshane Nicor in girls singles, Brendan Lui and Christopher Anglo in boys doubles, Lui and Nicor in mixed doubles, and Lance Uy, Brylle Mabayag, Lui, and Anglo in team tie.

Iloilo bagged two golds – from Jamila Aylah, Andrea Lagradante, Rheylyn Hernandez, and Althea Pedron in girls team tie, and Hernandez and Pedron in girls doubles. Antique’s Joash Kyle Caduada won gold in boys singles.

Negros got three golds from Pamela Joy Lopez in secondary girls, Brylee Mabayag and Lance Jeremy Uy in elementary boys team, and Cody Torres and Sean Justin de Jesus in secondary boys team tie.

In billiards, Capiz’s Kenneth Fresnido captured the secondary boys 8-ball championship. Negros’ Carmille Buhat claimed the secondary girls 8-ball gold while Antique’s Hannah Magluyan won the 9-ball gold.

In archery, Iloilo got two golds from Reuben Supena (secondary boys 30m) and Jeanes Sualsa (secondary girls 40m), while Negros had one from Julianna Alyssa Rongo in 40m./PN
