MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has called for patriotism among Filipinos to stop graft and corruption in the government.
“Dito sa graft and corruption, alam mo kayo lang ang makahinto niyan, hindi ako. Kayo lang talaga. The Filipino guy must be assertive,” Duterte said in his recent speech at the 49th Annual Installation of the Board of Trustees and Officer of the the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.
In the same speech, the President also vowed zero tolerance for public officials involved in corrupt activities.
He also asked everyone not to be afraid of government employees and personnel in the military and police service “if you are right.”
Filipinos should also stand up for their rights especially in government transactions like applying for land certificates or clearing packages at the Bureau of Customs, said Duterte.
“Only the people can effectively combat graft and corruption because as president, I cannot micromanage everything,” he added.
“Anyway I think that we should have a respite from corruption. Ngayon, if you want your country really to grow, ayaw ko ng away.”/PN
