ILOILO City – The rhythmic beat of the drums will echo once again at SM City Iloilo Southpoint today as Iloilo City kicks off the 100-day countdown to the Dinagyang Festival 2026, marking the start of preparations for one of the country’s most celebrated cultural events.
The launch will formally introduce seven competing tribes for next year’s Ati tribes competition and street dance, the centerpiece of the world-renowned festival known for its dazzling choreography, pulsating music, and deep religious devotion to Señor Santo Niño.
“This year, we have three new participating tribes, while some are collaborations between long-time performers and new groups,” said Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) executive director Joyce Ann Clavecillas.
This shows how Dinagyang continues to evolve each year, embracing innovation while honoring its roots and traditions, she stressed.
Carrying the theme “Bugay sang Ginoo, Bugay sang mga Ilonggo” (Blessings of God, Blessings of the Ilonggos), the 2026 Dinagyang edition celebrates the Ilonggos’ faith, gratitude, and creativity — values that have long defined Iloilo’s identity.
“Dinagyang has always been more than just a festival; it’s a reflection of our faith and identity as Ilonggos,” Clavecillas said. “Through this year’s national and local launches, we share that same spirit with the rest of the country and invite everyone to experience the joy and devotion that define Iloilo.”
The national launch, held on October 19 at the SM Mall of Asia Amphitheater in Pasay City, gave Metro Manila audiences a preview of Iloilo City’s world-class artistry.
“We’re proud to bring a glimpse of our culture to the national stage,” Clavecillas said. “It reminds the world that Iloilo’s artistry and devotion continue to inspire and connect people beyond our shores.”
Scheduled from January 23 to 25, 2026, Dinagyang Festival will feature major highlights such as the iloMINATION street dance and lights parade, Kasadyahan sa Kabanwahanan, and the Ati tribes competition, expected to draw thousands of local and international spectators./PN
