12 fugitives nabbed in a day

ILOILO – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) arrested 12 wanted persons in just one day.

The arrests were part of the IPPO’s security preparations to make Iloilo City’s Dinagyang Festival crime-free, said Police Colonel Roland Vilela, police provincial director.

The arrests were made in the following areas on Jan. 9: Passi City (two,) Ajuy, Pototan, Guimbal, Lambunao, Estancia, Balasan, Carles, Janiuay, Zarraga, and San Joaquin.

“We needed to arrest these wanted persons kasi baka i-sabotage nila ang peace and order ng ating 2020 Dinagyang Festival,” said Vilela.

The two-day highlights of the Dinagyang are on Jan. 25 (Dagyang sa Calle Real, sponsors’ mardi gras, religious sadsad) and Jan. 26 (ati tribes competition).

“We support the goal of the Police Regional Office 6 for zero major crime incidents during the Dinagayang,” said Vilela.

Aside from fugitives, the IPPO is also targeting loose firearms, illegal drugs and their traffickers.

As part of the security measures, too, checkpoint operations would be massive to intercept contrabands, said Vilela.

Mobile force companies will also be intensifying the internal security operations.
