ILOILO City – Two graduates of West Visayas State University’s (WVSU) College of Medicine topped the September 2016 Physician Licensure Examination.

Jose Kreisher Rae Bacosa-Foscablo ranked No. 5 with a rating of 88.50 while Gwyn Panes-Celo ranked No. 9 with a rating of 88.17.
WVSU also made it to the Top 10 best-performing medical schools in the exam. With a 93.81 percent passing rate, it ranked No. 7; 91 of its 97 examinees passed the medical board exam.

Foscablo, 26, is a resident of Isabela, Negros Occidental. He told Panay News he did not expect to land in the Top 10.
He thanked his supportive family.

“Grabe ila suporta, te kinanglan bayluhan gid sang maayo nga pagtuon,” said Foscablo.

Reviewing for the medical board was no joke, he added, but he managed the stress.

According to Foscablo, he will practice his profession in the country. He has no immediate plan to work abroad.
Celo of Alta Tierra Village, Jaro district said his family motivated him to do well, too.

The 26-year-old said to be a doctor was his “high school dream.” He pursued a Nursing degree after high school and a year after his college graduation decided to enroll at the WVSU College of Medicine.

Celo agreed with Foscablo that reviewing for the exam was tough. Family support and prayers carried him through.
“I didn’t think of the pressure nga maka-top. In the first place, nag-Medicine ‘ta for our patients, not for recognition,” said Celo.
He intends to practice his profession in a public hospital.

“Nami gid kon ang mabuligan mo kasimanwa mo,” said Celo.

WVUS president Dr. Luis Sorolla Jr. welcomed the achievements of the two new doctors and the College of Medicine.
“We are happy. This shows we are doing right. We are proud of them,” said Sorolla.

But there’s always room for improvement, he stressed, citing the six examinees who did not make it.

“We have to do something. Ang amon target gid ‘ya is 100 percent. (But) as of the moment, this achievement is good enough. We deserve it considering the many things we are doing to improve the university,” said Sorolla.

The university president thanked the College of Medicine’s faculty and staff led by the college dean, Dr. Joselito Villaruz, the graduates and WVSU’s benefactors./PN
