2019 ILOPRISAA: Hua Siong grand slam champ in HS academics

ILOILO City – Hua Siong College of Iloilo took home more than 50 medals in the recently concluded 2019 ILOPRISAA (Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association) Meet, once again proving itself as a powerhouse in the local sports arena – but the Red Phoenix didn’t only excel in athletic events, it soared in the academic, cultural, and literary competitions as well.

Hua Siong’s High School department forged an unwavering set of contestants in the battle of wits to sweep gold in the math, spelling, and general information quiz bees, and secure a grand slam championship in the academic events. The trio of Marianne Casugbo, Paolo Aliñab and Janzen Brix Batiles struck gold in the high school math quiz, while Tiffany Xu and Ping-Ru Chen also notched first place in spelling and general information, respectively.

Similarly, Anyah Nicolette Ting pocketed silver in the elementary division of the spelling competition, while Jean Paul Jaleco also grabbed second place in general information.

On the dance floor, the school stepped its way up to gold victories in the dancesports competitions. Prince David Lysander Sia and Xyrah Chloe Enojas pranced their way to the judges’ hearts to gain gold in elementary juvenile latin dancesports, while Paolo Miguel Alejandro and Jamelyn King came out on top in the juvenile modern standard competition. Hua Siong’s elementary dance troupe composed of Nicole Bandojo, Annika Denise Labordo, Jefemae Maido, De’ Jeon Juarez, Nikka Ella Wee Eng, Imiafrell Caluyo, Anya Katrina Nacional, and Arielle Ruth Valencia also fetched gold in Philippine folk dance.

Meanwhile, their high school counterparts finished with bronze medals in the Philippine folk dance competition. The winning group was joined by Yzra Kylene Juanco, Paul Bryan Pecina, Dianella Maris Po, Mark Adrian Singian, Ayessa Patrice Uberas, Ardrone Joed Denila, Carmela Joy Diaz, Teddie John Rajeev. The pair of Neil Marc Manua and Jhee Ysobel Que also strutted their way to a bronze medal in the high school latin dancesports competition.

Lastly, in the literary events, Abdul Hasim Sumpingan impressed in the high school talumpati event to bag gold, while Paolo Martin Abcede shone in English oration for a silver finish./PN
