3 dead in motorcycle-truck collision in NegOcc

BACOLOD City – Three individuals were killed after the motorcycle they were riding allegedly collided with a truck along the road in Crossing Cabanyohan, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental over the weekend.

The fatalities were identified as Rico Ian Samanero, 26, the motorcycle driver; and back riders Robin Causapin, 19, and Jomel Hamaybay, 21. All three were residents of Sitio Igang, Barangay Tampalon.

According to the Kabankalan City Police Station, the motorcycle was reportedly speeding downhill toward their residence at around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, when it collided with an Isuzu truck traveling uphill in the opposite direction.

The truck was driven by Gerardo III Makilan, 40, a resident of Barangay Locotan, Kabankalan City.

Police said the impact caused the three motorcycle riders to fall onto the pavement. They sustained serious injuries and were immediately rushed by the personnel of the Kabankalan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) to Kabankalan City Hospital.

Samanero and Hamaybay were pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician, while Causapin was declared dead while undergoing medical treatment.

The truck driver is now in the custody of the Kabankalan City police pending investigation./PN
