36 Aklanon OFWs test negative for COVID-19

KALIBO, Aklan – Thirty-six out of 37 Aklanon overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were repatriated in this province tested negative for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Provincial Health Office (PHO) here said. 
PHO-Aklan head Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr. said the OFWs are asymptomatic and are undergoing mandatory quarantine at a hotel in this capital town until May 13.

The Aklanon repatriates arrived in this province on April 29.

They were part of the 234 OFWs in Western Visayas stranded in Manila due to the enhanced community quarantine.

Swab samples were immediately taken from them after arriving in the hotel, and then their samples were sent to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.  

On the other hand, the one OFW who was confirmed as this province’s seventh COVID-19 case is a 30-year-old woman from Barangay Mambog, Banga town.

Cuachon said the woman was transferred to the isolation ward of the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital here for proper medical monitoring. The woman remains asymptomatic from the viral disease.

He added that all the 37 repatriated OFWs will undergo a repeat confirmatory test for the virus on May 13.(With a report from PIA/PN)
