ILOILO – Authorities apprehended five fishermen for alleged illegal fishing along the coastline of San Dionisio, Iloilo on July 15.
The suspects identified as aliases “Bombie”, 52; “Dennis”, 30; “Glen”, 41; “Reylan”, 50; and “Arnold”, 64, all residents of the town’s Barangay Agdaliran, were caught fishing without the necessary licenses or permits in the coastal waters of the said village, a designated marine protected area.
During the operation carried out by the Municipal Bantay Dagat in coordination with the San Dionisio Municipal Police Station (MPS), recovered were approximately four kilograms of fish, five fishing nets, and five fishing boats.
Captain Edward Villanis, chief of the San Dionisio MPS, said the arrest was made in line with Municipal Ordinance No. 12-03, Section 74, which strictly prohibits fishing without proper authorization in marine protected areas.
The suspects were required to pay corresponding fines at the San Dionisio Municipal Treasurer’s Office. Further legal proceedings may follow based on the final assessment of local authorities./PN
