MANILA – The Philippines’ dancesport team opened the country’s campaign in the 30th Southeast Asian Games with a strong showing at Royce Hotel and Casino in Pampanga.

The pair of Sean Mischa Aranar and Ana Leonila Nualla captured three gold medals in the single dance tango, single dance Viennese waltz and open standard yesterday.

“Sobrang nakakapagod pero sobrang nakaka-proud dahil one year namin pinaghandaan ito. Pero kalahating araw na tapos na. Nabawasan kami ng malaking pasagid kaya sobrang saya,” said Nualla.

Mark Jayson Gayon and Mary Joy Renigen, meanwhile, bagged two gold medals in the single dance waltz and single slow foxtrot. They finished with silver in standard quickstep.

“It’s a balance of everything. It makes it easier because the feelings will be there. This medal makes all the hardships worth it,” said Renigen.

Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Caneda also delivered three dance sports gold medals for the Philippines in the samba routine, Latin discipline solo chachacha and solo rumba./PN
