ILOILO City – Four doctors, two nurses and two nursing attendants at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) in Roxas City, Capiz tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The RMPH management thus announced yesterday it temporarily stopped accepting non-COVID-19 cases.
“Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital shall only be accepting seriously ill or critical indigent COVID-19 patients,” a statement from the management read.
The eight COVID-19-positive medical workers were being managed at the hospital. Three of them were exhibiting mild symptoms.
Contract tracing was also launched. Hospital employees who had close contact with the eight staff were swabbed and ordered to go on quarantine.
Portions of the hospital were decontaminated, too.
“We are requesting suspect and probable COVID-19 cases with mild symptoms to kindly proceed to other medical facilities for their care and management,” the statement from RMPH management read.
The hospital urged the public to continue practicing minimum health standards – wearing of facemask and face shield, observing physical distancing, washing of hands with disinfectant or soap and water – to prevent the spread of infection and to decrease the number of COVID-19 cases./PN
