81 arrested over Comelec gun ban in Panay

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested a total of 81 individuals for violation of Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban across Panay Island from January 12 to June 5.

Various operations also led to the confiscation of 81 assorted firearms, four-gun replicas and one explosive.

Here is the breakdown of arrests by police units:

* Antique Police Provincial Office (PPO) – eight

* Aklan PPO – four

* Capiz PPO – 18

* Guimaras PPO – four;

* Iloilo PPO – 34

* Iloilo City Police Office – eight

* Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6 – five

PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky lauded all unit commanders and their personnel for their sustained effort in enforcing the election gun ban.

He further emphasized and recognized the vital role of inter-agency collaboration through the Joint Security Control Center, under the supervision of the Comelec that made the implementation effective and successful.

The implementation of the Comelec checkpoint and gun ban is until midnight of June 11, 2025, in line with Republic Act No. 7166 (An Act Providing for Synchronized National and Local Elections and for Electoral Reforms) and Comelec Resolution No. 11067, promulgated on Sept. 25, 2024./PN
