920 motorists apprehended for traffic violations during Holy Week

ILOILO City – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 6 apprehended a total of 920 motorists for various traffic violations during the Holy Week, from April 11 to April 20, as part of its intensified enforcement operations under “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2025”.

Among the most common violations were failure to comply with Republic Act No. 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code), with 550 apprehensions; violations of the Seat Belt Use Act (Republic Act No. 8750) resulting in 228 citations; and non-compliance with the Motorcycle Safety Helmet Act (Republic Act No. 10054), with two violations.

Other violations included non-compliance with the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act (Republic Act No. 11229), which resulted in two apprehensions, and unauthorized public conveyance under Republic Act No. 11659, with one apprehension.

LTO-6 officials, including Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu, spearheaded the campaign, personally overseeing the strategic deployment of personnel at major terminals, ports, churches, and key areas across Iloilo. Their efforts aimed to ensure the safety of travelers during the high-traffic period, responding to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to bolster public safety during peak travel seasons.

The enforcement operations saw the inspection of 5,295 vehicles, with approximately 159 found to be non-compliant due to issues such as missing Original Receipts (ORs) and Certificates of Registration (CRs), lack of franchise, damaged tires, faulty wipers, and cracked windshields.

All 920 motorists were issued citation tickets and corresponding fines for their violations.

The initiative has received support from Department of Transportation Secretary Vince B. Dizon and LTO Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, both advocating for improved road safety and inter-agency coordination./PN
